In commemoration of the 13 families from Krefeld, Germany arriving in Philadelphia in
1683 and founding Germantown, the first German settlement in Pennsylvania, we will
honor German culture and heritage in the United States. In 1983 U.S. President Ronald
Reagan officially proclaimed German American Day in recognition of German-American
historical and continuous influence in every facet of American life.
